We’re not quite into the season of holidays stacked one on top of the other, but there’s one holiday this month that you can’t miss: National Nanny Recognition Week! 2022’s National Nanny Recognition Week, or NNRW, is happening right now: September 18th-24th.

If you’re familiar with Tried and True Nannies and Sitters, you know that we feel strongly about supporting and serving the nanny community as well as families that hire nannies. That’s why National Nanny Recognition Week is so near and dear to our hearts. This year, we’re celebrating it by spreading awareness of NNRW along with sharing some nanny appreciation ideas for your family.

What’s the Purpose of National Nanny Recognition Week?

National Nanny Recognition Week is a week dedicated to honoring the hard work of nannies and the commitment they have to the kids and families they care for. It’s also a way to spread awareness of how essential nannies are and how their work impacts all of us by raising kids with character and by enabling hundreds of thousands of parents to do valuable work in their careers.

NNRW was created by two industry leaders over 20 years ago, and it’s still going strong today. For more information about this week of recognition, visit the NNRW website.

Nanny Appreciation Ideas for NNRW (and Beyond!)

If your family employs a nanny, how can you show them your appreciation during this National Nanny Appreciation Week (or anytime, really)? Try these simple but meaningful nanny appreciation ideas.

Thank Them with a Card and a Gift

You can’t beat the classics! A gift is always a welcome way to show your nanny that you care and that you respect their hard work. It’s even better if your gift comes with a card that was specifically made for them.

The Nanny Cards is a company that was founded by a nanny who realized that there were no greeting cards that were geared toward the nanny community – neither cards to nannies nor from nannies. A specialized card for your nanny is a great way to show them that you put extra time and effort into their gift.

Plan a Family Celebration

Your nanny’s work benefits you as well as your kids, so why not get the whole family involved in a celebration of gratitude?

You don’t need to throw an elaborate party. Just take some time out of your schedule to get a cake and have a family game night with your nanny or do something else fun together. This is a wonderful way to not only thank them for everything they do but also to strengthen the bond between your family and your nanny.

Help Your Kids Express Their Appreciation

As much as you appreciate the extra time and peace of mind you get from having a nanny, your kids are the ones who spend every day or most days with them. Now is a great time to teach your kids about gratitude and appreciating the people in their lives by having them create a gesture of their appreciation.

For example, you can help them write or dictate letters about what their nanny means to them. Another option is to help them make a brief scrapbook of their favorite memories with their nanny.

Surprise Them with Relaxation Time

Nannies work hard, and just like every other hard worker, one of the gifts they often appreciate most is free time. Why not celebrate your nanny with a surprise of some relaxation time?

There are a few ways to do this. You could surprise them with the offer of a paid day off, or you could have someone else take care of the kids while you take the nanny to the spa for the day. Keep in mind, though, that if you want to give your nanny the gift of a day off, surprise them with the offer but let them choose the day, rather than suddenly saying, “Take the day off tomorrow.” This way, they can plan it around their schedule so they can make the most of their free time.

Making National Nanny Appreciation Week a Yearly Celebration

If this is the first time you've heard about NNRW, make this the start of a yearly routine to set aside some time to celebrate with your nanny. If, on the other hand, your family is still on the lookout for a nanny who will be the best fit, contact Tried and True Nannies and Sitters for help.
