What to Do in Nashville for the 4th of July
Nashville is a lively city on any given day, but on the 4th of July, it really lights up! If you’re looking for a way to enjoy family time together this year, check out these events and activities your kids will love.
Join Nashville’s Annual Celebration
Did you know Nashville has the largest fireworks show in the country? You have to see it for yourself! That epic fireworks display is only one part of Nashville’s popular annual event called Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th. This free event features an outstanding concert, this year headlined by Brad Paisley, along with plenty of other family-friendly festivities.
Host a Themed Family Craft Session
This Independence Day, let your kids’ creativity out to play (and your own, too) by making themed crafts with the family. You can use construction paper and other supplies to make your own flags or make other themed décor to make the house festive for the 4th. Or, if you have plans to attend a 4th of July party or to go to a holiday event, you could make hats to wear.
Have an Educational Celebration at Red, White & Boom
Why not give the 4th of July an educational twist? The Adventure Science Center is making this easy with its Red, White and Boom event. This family event features lawn games, food trucks, music, live science demonstrations, and even an excellent view of the fireworks show so you can watch it without the crowds.
Read a Patriotic Book to Your Kids
If you want a simple and relaxed way to celebrate the 4th of July, you could enjoy a themed family story time. There are countless patriotic children’s books, many of them telling the story of America’s birth in a kid-friendly way or celebrating the beautiful aspects of the US.
4th of July Safety Tips for Families
As much fun as the 4th of July is, some of its traditions come with risks. That doesn’t mean you have to stay home to keep your kids safe. Follow these top 4th of July safety tips throughout your celebrations to make sure the day remains a fun one:
Leave the fireworks to the professionals rather than trying to display your own.
If you use sparklers, only use them on surfaces that are fire-resistant, like pavement as opposed to grass.
If you go to a large event, use safety tips in case you get separated from your kids:
Take pictures of your kids in the outfits they’re wearing to the event.
Write your phone number on your child’s arm or use another way to make sure that, if your child wanders off, someone will be able to call you.
Find a landmark to use as the family’s emergency meeting point – if you get separated, everyone goes to that landmark to meet.
Consider alternatives to sparklers like glow sticks, confetti poppers, or silly string, especially for young kids.
Don’t forget ear protection for your kids at fireworks displays and concerts.
